In his work, Anirudh looks at historical and contemporary spaces of power and sites of material accumulation, and investigate the relationship between artistic practices/agencies, material economies, and industrial histories. He is invested in the ternary oppositions of "image", "matter" and "space" and how they underpin the distinctions between the disciplines of painting, sculpture, and architecture.
In this work, the interior of a cave in the still-active mining town of Zawar is rendered using zinc slag collected from an ancient dump site. The various sections of the cave are painted from a singular vantage point, creating a sense of perspectival depth that places the viewer inside the cave, thereby conveying the proximity and distance of the interior walls relative to the observer's position.
