When Sonal Sarjolta moved to Himachal as a bride, a seed was sown to look for uplifting the lives of the women in the local community around her. A simple idea of taking the pure ghee that each woman made for her household, and selling some of it outside, was the start of a brand of local produce that is often forgotten, is all traditional and is seasonal. Shillar House is the centre of the community, and hence the name of the brand; the small bits of financial independence that the women experienced resulted in big strides in self worth, equality and empowerment. Ghee has multiplied into a wide range of produce, all organically grown and in tune with Nature’s cycles, and with it the wonderful belief amongst the women that they are "no less”.
