Sheetal Paani, is currently based in Pune. She is a young self taught painter. Sheetal has a design background, and is drawn to the graphic quality of vintage labels, something that is quintessentially Indian.
She is an avid reader and says the use of text or a message in an artwork comes naturally to her. She is inspired from popular culture and uses her sense of humour to change the original meaning.
The paintings reference popular culture, are inspired from vintage Indian matchboxes and labels. The labels typically have an image with a title, while the title directly refers to the image, often the type of drawing matching the word is endearing or funny.
