208 Pieces Jigsaw Puzzle - Kalighat Pat
Migrant patua, or scroll painters, converged around Kalighat temple in Kolkata, early in the 18th century to give rise to a new school. For more than a hundred years the pilgrims offered a ready market for the pat as souvenirs. Pat paintings were originally rendered with bold rapid brush strokes on hand made cotton pulp paper. Natural colours were used. An increasing demand led the artists to adapt lithography and artificial colours. A majority of the Kalighat pat treated religious and traditional subjects, but the introduction of secular themes are of great interest now.
