A tribute to Literature in the Year of the Tiger

Storytelling originated visually through cave drawings, graduated to oral traditions and then peaked with the written pages of books.

The discovery of eleven book covers inspired us to re-examine visuals on a printed page - asking “how do stories come alive?”…

As artists we know well the obsession with an idea that takes over our Being, gets lost in a labyrinth, and finally finds its way out into the sun :
a roar
a ‘tiger of an idea’
fantasy-contortion-metamorphosis
unleashing its own “TYGER”

This is how these stories were born…



Found papers, originally printed Intaglio (each page has the Plate number)
Printed illustrations on the papers by the prodigious Aubray Beardsley
Mounts created with Avaz Mohammed, award winning craftsman from Jaipur who continues a family legacy of working with lac, a natural resin used for jewellery and bangles.
Illustrations created using black and white acrylic paint to draw out the written word, inspired by Persian miniature art.
