Jagrity Phukan

Jagrity Phukan is an emerging textile artist based in Northeast India whose work is deeply rooted in the indigenous knowledge economy and its traditional practices. The primary materials Jagrity uses are Muga, Eri and Mulberry silks, cane, bamboo, various indigenous fibres and natural dye materials. Much of this is abundantly available in Assam and grown in her ancestral silk farms and nearby forest areas. A key aspect of her work is her collaboration with a community of sericulture farmers, weavers, dyers : together, they “GROW THE TEXTILES” from soil to silk producing handmade creations that celebrate living traditions. Her work is not just Woven Poetry, it is a representation of the symbiotic relationship between heritage, tradition, folklore, and nature.
