Alka Mathur
Alka Mathur’s artistic practice entails mental reconstructions articulated as textural assemblages on paper, fabric and canvas. She is a visual artist working in mixed media. Using natural dyes, earth pigments, discarded and found objects, Alka strives to blur the line between the traditional and contemporary.
As a daily practice, Alka assembles used tea bags, tea stained and handmade paper, by writing, drawing, stitching, stamping and collaging to make journals. These works are both anecdotal and autobiographical - incorporating the ordinary, everyday and seemingly mundane happenings and conversations where the artist presents herself in fragments, while also drawing the viewer into reading the work and becoming an active participant.
